Winterizing a Prochem truck mount - New
Generation units
(Blazer XL Legend XL, Peak, Apex and Everest)
Time on task. 10-20 minutes
at most.
You will need:
1. Antifreeze.
Prochem only recommends 100%
glycol base automobile antifreeze. They use it for winterizing units
before leaving the factory. It is a very suitable recommendation. Glycol
auto antifreeze will not ice crystallize when temperatures really drop
down below freezing. Partially frozen "crystallized" antifreeze
could do damage – ice crystals scoring parts at startup.
Propylene glycol "
RV" antifreeze may also be used for winterizing the water system of
truck mounts. Besides being less expensive it is less toxic. Either green
(auto) or pink (RV) antifreeze works – more important is being sure the winterizing
gets done.
Use an approved and properly label
container to recover antifreeze. Green automobile antifreeze must be
properly recovered and recycled – only dispose of in accordance to label
instructions and applicable environmental law. It is toxic to pets,
wildlife and humans.
2. A Winterizing Hose and
flow-open coupler . ( Part # W1009, $49.95 )
Winterizing Tips:
-
Learn to winterize your truck
mount prior to the onslaught of winter. Nothing is worse than learning how
to winterize at night, away from home, and in the dead of the worst of
winter.
-
Carry antifreeze in your truck
at all times during the winter. You may not be able to get to your indoor
storage.
-
Bring wands and high pressure
hoses into indoor storage.
-
Bring liquid chemicals into
indoor storage. Chemicals are not meant to be frozen.
-
If you chose to use RV
antifreeze purchase a half dozen cases early in the season. It is most
commonly used to winterize boats and recreational vehicles and is
available in the fall. During the winter when carpet cleaners most need
it, retailers usually don’t have it on hand.
-
Some of the worst winter
damage has been done to trucks left in another’s care – a car
dealership, towing company, or over at your brother-in-law son’s
apartment. Unknowingly they see only the van, not water that will freeze
damage carpet cleaning equipment.
-
Automobile antifreeze "
Ethylene Glycol " is toxic. Keep it away from pets and children. Keep
it in it's properly labeled container. Each year thousands of pets and
animals are poisoned. Wipe up spills.
-
If you are doing this on
behalf of a Prochem Owner ( i.e., car dealer, tow shop, ect., you
should know that a Prochem truck mount is an industrial piece of
equipment. It can cause injury and death. Read all warning
labels on the machine, read instructional manual and only then proceed
to winterize. If you have questions, please call us. PDF manuals may
be downloaded at http://www.prochem.com/

ALTHOUGH THIS INFORMATION IS OFFERED WITHOUT
COST, AND IS BELIEVED TO BE CONCISE AND ACCURATE, WE CAN
NOT, AND WILL NOT, BE RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY FREEZE DAMAGE
THAT MAY OCCUR FROM FOLLOWING THESE INSTRUCTIONS. INDOOR STORAGE IS
THE ONLY GUARANTEED WAY TO PREVENT FREEZE DAMAGE. With that said,
PLEASE do your best to winterize your unit. Freeze damage is unnecessary
and very expensive.
Winterizing a Prochem
1. Shut off the water supply. Disconnect
the water inlet hose from the front of your console.
2. Connect all high-pressure hoses and
tools that may have water in them. (Note: in some cases it is easier to
bring tools and HP hoses into indoor storage.)
3. Start the unit and turn water pump on.
Open the tool valve (s), or if storing tools and HP hoses indoors, use the
Winterizing Hose with connector on it to purge water. Run unit until water pressure drops and water stops flowing.
When truck mount has run out of water turn off.
4. Fill the now empty Water Box (WB) with
approximately 2 gallons of 100% anti-freeze. The WB is the white molded
plastic container with a black cap on top. It is mounted on the Prochem
truck mount. The WB connects to the water inlet, to the water pump, the
waste tank and the hot water circulation system. Don’t confuse the WB
with the much larger fresh water supply tank.
5. Turn the solution pump override switch
to the override position and start the unit. Turn the solution
pump switch ON.
6. Open the tool valve until anti-freeze
begins to come out of the tool. Recover ALL anti-freeze that comes out of
the tools into an approved container. We strongly recommend that you
recycle and re-use the anti-freeze. Repeat this
procedure with all the remaining tools. After all tools and pressure hoses
have been filled with anti-freeze, disconnect and store them.
7. Turn the solution pump switch OFF.
Attach the winterizing loop hose, Part #W1009
to the
solution outlet connection and the water inlet connection. Turn the
solution pump switch ON. Allow the unit to run for approximately 3 minutes
with the winterizing loop hose attached.
8. Open Valve labeled Heat Bypass for 30
seconds to allow antifreeze to circulate through valve, then gently close.
9. Insert the chemical inlet and prime
discharge tubes into anti-freeze. Turn the chemical valve to PRIME until
anti-freeze begins to flow out of the prime hose. Use a 50/50 mix
antifreeze/water mix if using green auto antifreeze, or full-strength red
antifreeze.
10. Spray Spartan Lube All or WD-40 into Lubrication cup at front of
machine.
11. Now turn the chemical valve and flow
simulator valves to the open position, making certain that the flow meter
indicates flow and that all antifreeze drains out of the chemical hose
into an approved container, after 30 seconds, turn off both valves.
12. Drain waste tank, fresh water tanks,
water softener, and waste tank pump out.
13. Run auxiliary water tank demand pump
dry.
Everest HIGH PRESSURE Units only.
Turn solution pressure valve to high
pressure and key the high-pressure wand until anti-freeze begins to come
out of the wand. Recover all anti-freeze into an approved container.
After completing these procedures, shut the
unit down. The unit is now winterized.
